Summer Solstice Crazy Bonkers Rides

Friday, June 21

Now in its sixth year, the Summer Solstice Crazy Bonkers Rides will challenge cyclists to a summer night spin, with a variety of distances available to sign up for, from 52 to 180 kilometres. The event, which takes place at the Al Qudra Cycle Path in Dubai, is scheduled to coincide with the Summer Solstice, or the longest day of the year. Prices start from Dh157.50.

Coast-to-Coast Cycle Challenge

Friday, November 15

A new non-competitive, supported cycle challenge held in collaboration with Dubai Roadsters starts in Sharjah, taking riders through the desert, across the Hajar Mountains and on to the east coast of Kalba, then north to Fujairah. Overall, the route spans about 200km with approximately 1,300 metres of elevation along the roads, through the dunes and over mountains. If you don't think you can handle the full route, an abridged 140km ride will also take place, finishing at the Kalba coast with a barbecue at the Le Meridien Al Aqah. Ticket prices start from Dh550, and registry is open now.

Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge

Friday, November 29

This challenge in Dubai takes place over two distances: 92km and 52km. It runs from 6am to 11am, with full police support, rolling road closures and cheering residents on the sidelines. The challenge begins and ends at the Dubai Autodrome, and riders must have an average speed of 26kph. Registration opens on June 9. Junior challenges are also available the day before the main event.

UAE Road Cycling Championship

From October 4

This national road cycling championship is in its third season and will crown Emirati male and female champions, as well as expatriate male and female riders, plus winners in various age categories. It recreates a grand tour, with stages for climbers, time triallers and sprinters. These are held over three months, with races taking place on October 3 and 25, as well as November 8 and 22, across several locations, including Kalba Hills, Jebel Jais and Dubai Sports City. Entry prices start from Dh231.

Arabian Epic Series XCM2

From December 17

The Arabian Epic Series is now in its second season and takes riders on a three-day, long-distance race across three different countries, as well as 10 one-day XCM races in the UAE. It's a demanding race covering mountainous terrain, rocky wadis, old villages and lush plantations. It's a significant test of endurance, but on the three-day events you can expect some luxury accommodation, as the race partners up with properties, including the JA Hatta Fort Hotel. Registration for the next season is now open.
