New Ram 1500 TRX pick-up unveiled – and it's an absolute beast

Ram’s premier behemoth, the 1500, has had an upgrade, and it’s called the TRX.

To say it was keenly awaited would be an understatement – the manufacturer said orders for a limited-edition launch model were filled within three hours of the announcement.

There were 702 of these vehicles available and it seems they flew out the door with some rapidity. And if you’re wondering about that 702 number, it’s because the TRX has 702 horsepower.

Don’t worry, though, Ram fans, a range model is still available, and it has plenty to keep pick-up aficionados happy.

The manufacturer claims bragging rights that the TRX is the quickest, fastest and most powerful mass-produced truck currently available.

That 702 horsepower comes from a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine, which will carry this fulsome, 0.9 tonne vehicle from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 4.5 seconds. It is a powertrain borrowed from Dodge’s Hellcat line of performance cars and has a top speed of 190kph.

No slumming it inside, either. The TRX has been fitted out with the luxury interior that has been a feature on the 1500 range for some years. Alongside an array of driver aids there is a 12-inch Uconnect touchscreen. Plenty of storage space around the cabin, too, but that’s no real surprise in a vehicle of this size.

There’s also an all-new heads-up display unit, so you don’t need to take your eyes off the road when things get rough, which they’re likely to when you go off road.

Production of the TRX range edition starts at the tail end of this year, and they’ll be available in the UAE around that time. A model with full spec will be on sale for Dh375,000.
