Fans of the movie hitman John Wick, played by Keanu Reeves, have something to look forward to in 2021.
Motiongate Dubai has announced it will be launching a ride inspired by the John Wick franchise – marking the first time the action franchise helmed by Reeves has been turned into an amusement park ride.
Set over a 310-metre track, and reaching speeds of up to 64 kilometres per hour, John Wick: Open Contract will deliver up to 2.8 G-force from the 4D free-spin coaster.
It is inspired by the events of the cinematic franchise, giving guests the chance to step into The Continental, a hotel that acts as neutral ground for members of the criminal underworld.
Riders will then embark on a journey that simulates the action of the John Wick world as the coaster races down a 4D track that provides forward and backward freestyle spins.
Motiongate will also introduce a spinning coaster based on the heist thriller franchise Now You See Me – touted as the world's fastest single-car spinning coaster.
The Now You See Me: High Roller ride will reach speeds of up to 70 kilometres per hour, giving guests a chance to be part of the Four Horsemen magicians as they race to expose the antics of a criminal mastermind.
The coaster experience will feature drops, non-inverted loops and Immelmann turns, which take riders on a 180-degree turn after entering a half-loop section of the track, followed by a half twist.
Although the exact launch dates of the two rides are yet to be announced, they are expected to open in early 2021.The rides will be part of the park's expansion of the Lionsgate Zone, which features Lionsgate-branded attractions and events. Lionsgate is the entertainment company behind franchises such as John Wick, The Hunger Games and Rambo.

What is blockchain?
Blockchain is a form of distributed ledger technology, a digital system in which data is recorded across multiple places at the same time. Unlike traditional databases, DLTs have no central administrator or centralised data storage. They are transparent because the data is visible and, because they are automatically replicated and impossible to be tampered with, they are secure.
The main difference between blockchain and other forms of DLT is the way data is stored as ‘blocks’ – new transactions are added to the existing ‘chain’ of past transactions, hence the name ‘blockchain’. It is impossible to delete or modify information on the chain due to the replication of blocks across various locations.
Blockchain is mostly associated with cryptocurrency Bitcoin. Due to the inability to tamper with transactions, advocates say this makes the currency more secure and safer than traditional systems. It is maintained by a network of people referred to as ‘miners’, who receive rewards for solving complex mathematical equations that enable transactions to go through.
However, one of the major problems that has come to light has been the presence of illicit material buried in the Bitcoin blockchain, linking it to the dark web.
Other blockchain platforms can offer things like smart contracts, which are automatically implemented when specific conditions from all interested parties are reached, cutting the time involved and the risk of mistakes. Another use could be storing medical records, as patients can be confident their information cannot be changed. The technology can also be used in supply chains, voting and has the potential to used for storing property records.

What sanctions would be reimposed?
Under ‘snapback’, measures imposed on Iran by the UN Security Council in six resolutions would be restored, including:
- An arms embargo
- A ban on uranium enrichment and reprocessing
- A ban on launches and other activities with ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons, as well as ballistic missile technology transfer and technical assistance

HAEMOGLOBIN DISORDERS EXPLAINED
Thalassaemia is part of a family of genetic conditions affecting the blood known as haemoglobin disorders.
Haemoglobin is a substance in the red blood cells that carries oxygen and a lack of it triggers anemia, leaving patients very weak, short of breath and pale.
The most severe type of the condition is typically inherited when both parents are carriers. Those patients often require regular blood transfusions - about 450 of the UAE's 2,000 thalassaemia patients - though frequent transfusions can lead to too much iron in the body and heart and liver problems.
The condition mainly affects people of Mediterranean, South Asian, South-East Asian and Middle Eastern origin. Saudi Arabia recorded 45,892 cases of carriers between 2004 and 2014.
A World Health Organisation study estimated that globally there are at least 950,000 'new carrier couples' every year and annually there are 1.33 million at-risk pregnancies.
