If your furniture is made of wrought iron, make sure to wash it down regularly with a mild soap and water. If you find rust stains, sand them down gently. If you have aluminium furniture and it is covered in scuff marks, these can be removed with a non-abrasive cleaning gel. Another useful tip is to rub some baby oil into your aluminium furniture as this will act as a protectant.
It’s always a good idea to keep your outdoor furniture covered when it is not in use. Buy sturdy, waterproof covers that will withstand the effects of both sun and rain. Take care of where you place your furniture, too. If you put soft wood chairs on a grassy area, the moisture from the ground may cause the wood to rot. If you don’t have any shaded areas in your garden, invest in a wide umbrella that provides as much coverage as possible.
Outdoor furniture is not always the most comfortable, so we recommend buying or making cushions. Make sure they are created from an outdoor fabric that is fade-resistant. And store them indoors when they are not in use.
