Define pudding.
If you’re British, you’ve just defined it very differently than an American would. While talking with Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro Jr, he shared a great baking tip: add pudding to your cake batter.
But when I mentioned this to my British colleagues, they were more than confused. For them, pudding is simply dessert. Any dessert. It can also sometimes be a savoury dish. So imagine their surprise when they heard the international master of cakes adds ‘dessert’ to his cake batter.
Valastro Jr, who is from the US, does indeed use pudding in his cake batter. But his version (and every other American’s version) of pudding is a milk-based, creamy dessert that, to Brits, would be best described as a smooth custard.
