A new Turkish restaurant, Kiyi, has opened in the Fairmont Ajman.

Kiyi (pronounced “key”) means “along the shore”. The restaurant overlooks the Arabian Gulf and has been designed to resemble a traditional Imperial Ottoman setting.

Head chef Fahri Karatas, from Istanbul, will serve up authentic cuisine from his homeland. Menu highlights include grills such as Turkish lamb kebab, grilled chicken kebab and et sotesi (pan fried beef fillet in a rich tomato sauce). You’ll also find slow cooked lamb shank; coriander-marinated grilled swordfish and an assortment of unique seafood dishes.

Karatas started cooking with his father at a young age in Istanbul. From local restaurants in Turkey to the head chef position at the Turkish embassy in Gambia, Karatas has stayed true to his culinary roots. Karatas says, “Turkish food is all about flavour, colours and aromas. Sharing style meals are really important to me. The Kiyi menu will include plenty of family platters so the meal can be enjoyed across the table which is very traditional in Turkish culture.”

Kiyi is on the lobby level of the Fairmont Ajman and will be open six days a week for dinner from 6pm to 1am. The restaurant will be closed on Tuesdays. In addition to the main dining area, there is an outdoor dining terrace as well as private majlis-style settings.
