Each trip to the grocery store these days seems to reveal an expansion of the offerings from Abu Dhabi Organics Farm. To pay prices that are so much more reasonable for organic produce - and have it be locally grown - is a delight and a relief. You can read a bit more about this outfit , (and an interesting January 19 piece in the New York Times on local produce ). They do good work. But I have been toting home their beets, peppers and tomatoes for a couple of weeks now, and these plastic containers make me queasy. We are far from 100 per cent recycling here in Abu Dhabi, or in Dubai for that matter, and I fear much of this unnecessary (and flimsy, to be honest) packaging is heading to local landfill. Seems to defeat the point of buy local, you know?
