Fed up with the usual choice of dining options? Then it’s time to try LAO, a new “unique and contemporary” restaurant that has opened at the Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah. The concept is inspired by the ancient Lao tribe that occupied South East Asia in the first millennium and the menu promises to take diners on an exotic journey, with interpretations of dishes from Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia.
Jan Moenkedieck, the general manager of the hotel, said: “LAO is a bespoke South East Asian concept designed especially for Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah and draws from the rich heritage and simplicity of living that the Lao people were known for. Their food has impacted diverse Asian cultures and it is this unique diversity and heritage that we are delighted to bring to our guests in Dubai under the expert charge of our head chef, Chef Mai and her culinary crew. The authenticity of LAO is reflected in both the menu and ambience, and we are certain diners will thoroughly relish the experience, in addition to our wide variety of F&B options.”
Commenting on the occasion, Chef Mai said, “I am very honoured to be a part of LAO, which focuses on speciality dishes from South East Asia and where our guests will discover traditional Asian flavours in contemporary ways. The LAO experience is a tribute to Asian philosophy of good and clean living, and in that respect, we have taken great care in selecting well-picked fresh ingredients that are treated with harmony and respect”.
The modern eatery features an open kitchen, views of the Arabian Gulf and an outdoor terrace.
LAO is also hosting an Easter lunch on Friday from 12.30pm to 3pm, with prices starting at Dh235.
Elsewhere in the Waldorf Astoria, there is an Easter brunch at the Arabesque restaurant Mezzerie from 12.40pm to 4pm, with prices starting at Dh350; Easter dinner from 7pm at Social by Heinz Beck, the three-Michelin-starred chef’s fine dining restaurant; plus Easter fun for kids on the hotel’s lawn from 12.30pm to 3.30pm, featuring egg hunts, a bouncy castle, face and egg painting, and an Easter bunny petting farm.
