Bella Hadid donates to Beirut after deadly explosion: 'My eyes and heart are crying for you Lebanon'

The model is among a number of celebrities urging fans to donate to Lebanon

Palestinian-American model Bella Hadid joins the list of celebrities who have donated to Beirut following this week’s deadly blast that claimed the lives of more than 150 people and caused widespread destruction in Lebanon’s capital.

On Instagram, Hadid expressed her sadness over the incident. She posted a viral video of an older Lebanese woman playing the piano amid the destruction and rubble in her home, along with the message: “My eyes and heart are crying for you Lebanon… I am sorry you have to endure this kind of disaster my brothers and sisters… I will be sending donations to the Lebanese Red Cross, as well as ALL of the smaller organisations in Beirut.”

Hadid’s list of chosen organisations include Impact Lebanon, Bank to School and Bassma. “Helping from within, through these smaller organisations can help pin point what necessities are most needed and where they can be sent,” she wrote.

The model, whose father is real estate developer Mohamed Hadid, also mentioned the numerous issues facing Lebanon, including political unrest, an economic crisis and the spread of the Covid-19.

“We need to collectively support immediate humanitarian relief… Beirut – I am wrapping you in a golden blanket of light and strength. I see you and support you,” she continued.

Other celebrities, including Ariana Grande, urged fans and followers to help, adding that she will be offering donations. Along with a link to a charity working in disaster relief, the singer tweeted: "My heart, strength and condolences are with Lebanon and everyone affected this tragedy."

Actress Jameela Jamil shared a link to the Lebanese Red Cross on Twitter, as well as a guide to other organisations in the country. “A pandemic, political unrest and now 300,000 people left homeless due to the blast. Beirut needs global support,” she said.

Recently, George Clooney and his wife Amal also provided financial support to Lebanese charities, totalling $100,000 (Dh367,000) in donations.
