The Malaysian state-owned oil firm Petronas said on Monday it loaded the world's first LNG cargo from its floating gas production unit.

The cargo from the Petronas Floating LNG Satu (PFLNG Satu), off the coast of Bintulu in east Malaysia, was fully loaded onto the LNG carrier Seri Camelliaat the weekend and is expected to sail for a South Asian market, according to Petronas. It is thought South Korea is the probable desination.

“This successful first cargo milestone further bolsters our reputation as a reliable and leading global LNG player and one-stop LNG solutions provider,” said the chief executive Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin.

The platform, completed last year, is more akin to a high-end hotel with facilities including a swimming pool, golf range and function rooms.

At the weekend Petronas said it will collaborate with Singapore’s Pavilion Energy in trading LNG.

The subsidiaries of the two firms, Petronas LNG and Pavilion Gas signed a memorandum of understanding on March 30.

The firms will “explore the supply and optimisation of LNG including spot trading and cargo swaps” and look at efforts “relating to LNG receiving terminal and storage facilities”, according to Pavilion Energy.
