DUBAI // Games Middle East, which was scheduled to take place at Dubai World Trade Centre on the weekend of September 22-24, and promised to be the region’s greatest gathering of games fans, be it console, computer or board, has been postponed until next year by the organisers, The Alliance LLC.

The Alliance blamed “the schedule of new releases and availability of new content” for the decision.

The statement in full ran: “Following the success of the event last year, organisers and stakeholders have been diligently working to ensure this year’s show exceeds the quality and standards of previous events. Despite a number of fantastic exhibitors, guests, tournaments and activities lined up, the schedule of new game releases and availability of new content has prompted a mutual decision by organisers and strategic partners to postpone the event and ensure the best experience possible is available to fans and enthusiasts from across the Middle East.”

When contacted by The National to ask whether we should expect a full 12-month postponement until September 2017, or if the 2017 event may be brought forward on account of the missing 2016 event, a spokesman said: "We can't say at the moment. We're looking at when the best content is available and will plan accordingly. We want it to be the best gaming show possible and nothing less."

Dates for 2017 will be announced next year and those who have already purchased tickets will be contacted by Virgin Tickets for refunds and next steps.
