The third and possibly final (with release just over three weeks away) Star Trek: Beyond trailer has landed on YouTube today.
The new clip doesn’t give a great deal away that we didn’t already know narratively, though it does offer a brief clip of JLT metro station, presumably considered futuristic-looking enough in its own right to escape the attention of the CGI wizards in post production (it’s at 0:03 in the trailer).
The mountain directly behind it is, we suspect, added in post-production, unless the scenery around the metro station has changed pretty dramatically since I was last there earlier today.
The new trailer also returns to the ‘slightly incongruous soundtrack’ theme of the first trailer, this time with Rihanna providing the audio over the action.
We also get some more shots of the destruction of the Starship Enterprise and its ensuing plummet into DIFC (or whichever alien planet DIFC is standing in for), some longer battle scenes featuring the crew, Sofia Boutella’s mystery alien ally, and Idris Elba’s heavily CGI’d bad guy and his equally touched up troops.
Chris Hemsworth makes a brief cameo too, though it looks like an archive footage flashback – Hemsworth played James T Kirk (Chris Pine)’s dad George Kirk in the first rebooted movie
The movie is certainly looking like more and more of an action-packed rollercoaster ride with each new clip.
