Shahid Kapoor confirms he is going to be a dad



Actor Shahid Kapoor has confirmed that is about to become a dad. When asked if he was ready for ­fatherhood, at the trailer launch of his latest film Udta Punjab, Kapoor said: "Yes, I'm going to become a father." Rumours had been flying that the 35-year-old star's wife, Mira Rajput, was pregnant after she was spotted with a "baby bump" at a fashion event. In his upcoming movie, about the drugs scene in Punjab, Kapoor plays an addicted rock star. "It's an issue that needs to be addressed, that lies for this entire generation – for the parents and the children, it's a real issue," he said. "I think it was very courageous on producer Abhishek Bachchan's part to dedicate almost three years of his life to something he felt needed to be spoken about." The film, which also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Alia Bhatt, is due out in India on June 17. – IANS

Wakeboard contest to screen on Fuel TV

Fuel TV is set to ­broadcast a highlights show ­featuring all the best jumps, tricks and turns performed by ­competitors at ­November's Wake Park World Championships at Al Forsan International Sports Resort in Abu Dhabi. The 25-minute show will feature local riders, including Omeir Saeed, and international stars including Tim Fooshee and Julia Rick, among more than 100 wakeboarders from around the world who faced off in the three-day championship as part of the international Wake Park World Series organised by the World Wakeboard Association. The show will be broadcast in all 68 countries where FUEL TV is available. It will debut in the UAE on Saturday at 1am, with repeats throughout the week. – The National

Farah Khan in Beijing for Kung Fu Yoga shoot

This month, action-movie superstar Jackie Chan visited Jodhpur, India, to shoot part of his Indo-Chinese film Kung Fu Yoga, in which Farah Khan choreographed the 62-year-old star in a Bollywood-style dance number. Now, Khan, 51, is in Beijing to shoot the remainder of the song with Chan, co-star Sonu Sood and the rest of the cast. On Friday, Khan tweeted: "The adventure continues.. En route Beijing #kungfuyoga .. @geetakapur." Sood tweeted, "Farah! Everyone in Beijing is waiting 4 u with their dancing shoes on ... see u tomorrow. Time to dance on ur tunes." Kung Fu Yoga, which is directed by Stanley Tong and was partly filmed in Dubai, is the first in a three-film Indian-Chinese deal to promote both countries, signed during Chinese president Xi Jinping's visit to India last year. – Sonali Kokra

Dilip Kumar not out of danger

The condition of veteran actor Dilip Kumar has improved since his admission to hospital with pneumonia over the weekend, but doctors say that he is not yet out of the danger. "Some specialised tests are still left, which we are doing. We will keep a close watch on him for the next 48 hours or so," said ­pulmonologist Jalil Parkar at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital. He added that the 93-year-old actor has an infection in his lungs and a fever, but is conscious and able to eat. "We have to see for at least two more days. Right now, there is no need for ICU for him – we have kept him under close observation," said Parkar. – IANS

J J Abrams and Chris Rock chat at Tribeca

Comedian and actor Chris Rock interviewed Star Wars: The Force Awakens director and producer J J Abrams during a Directors Talk session at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York at the weekend. When asked how he decides on which projects to work, and with whom, Abrams said: "People who aren't kind" help him to decide. "When I've heard that people are difficult, I've almost always said no – life is too short," he says. Rock offered some advice to aspiring actors and filmmakers: "You're going to have meetings with ­pretty much the same people your whole career – so be a gentleman. They're not going anywhere." Speaking about Star Wars, Abrams said that making the film was "a blast" – and surprisingly manageable. "Nothing changes in terms of the fundamentals," he said. "Take away the epic scale and computer-graphics wizardry of Star Wars, and you've got the same essentials of cinema: ­actors engaged with one ­another entertainingly." – AP

Ace Frehley in hospital with exhaustion

Former Kiss lead guitarist Ace Frehley had to cancel a show in New York after he was ­hospitalised with exhaustion. A post on his website and ­Facebook page confirmed that he had been admitted to the FM Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania at the weekend. It added that the symptoms were “­exhaustion and dehydration”. The 64-year-old rocker – who has been touring for a month month – “reluctantly” agreed to cancel Saturday night’s sold-out show at The Chance in ­Poughkeepsie. – AP

Filming for Salman Khan’s Eid movie to start

Sultan, the Salman Khan film scheduled for release at Eid, will begin filming in Uttar Pradesh this week. Work on the movie, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and produced by Aditya Chopra under the Yash Raj Films banner, will begin on April 20 the filmmakers confirmed. The film, which also stars Anushka Sharma, tells the story of Sultan Ali Khan, played by Khan, a wrestler facing problems in his professional and personal life. – IANS

Zac Brown in room where four arrested

Country singer Zac Brown has said he was “in the wrong place at the wrong time” last week whne he was in a Palm Beach hotel room in which four people were arrested for drug possession. A report from Palm Beach Police Department revealed that Brown, lead singer of the Grammy-winning Zac Brown Band, was present when police arrived at the Four Seasons Hotel on April 8. He was not charged or arrested. Brown has that he did not know the people arrested, cooperated fully with police and is not part of any ongoing police investigation. He added that he regretted “using poor judgment and putting myself in that position”. – AP

Real estate tokenisation project

Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.

The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.

Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
