As a huge fan of Lego since an early age, I've often poured scorn at the latest range of blocks capitalising on "current pop trends", such as the
Harry Potter
Lego or
Pirates of the Caribbean
Lego. Shameless sales ploys devaluing a fantastic and creative child's plaything, I thought. Is the only way to get kid's building stuff whacking Voldermort's face on it, I asked myself. This changed the other day, however, when Lego decided to introduce the first clips of a range featuring my other favourite thing:
The Lord of the Rings.
Cool eh? Well, I think so. The first range is due out in June, followed by a
Hobbit
line due closer to the release of
An Unexpected Journey
. As you can see, the seven members of the Fellowship have been suitably sized, with pint sized hobbitses, an equally diminutive Gimli (complete with massive axe) and lanky wizard. Notice Frodo's gigantic gold ring. And the look of treachery on Boromir's face... no?
Gollum and the rest of "the baddies" look pretty awesome too. No doubt a massive (and massively expensive) Minas Tirith will soon follow. And yes, we want one. And by we, I mean I.
