Hopefuls line up for MI:IV in Dubai

DUBAI // People hoping to land a role in Mission: Impossible IV are lining up for casting calls in sparkling gowns and other fine evening attire.

They are the lucky ones called back after applying online for one of 1,000 non-speaking parts in the film, which begins shooting in Dubai next month. The contenders were asked to show up in formal wear and, if possible, in traditional national dress.

In the latest round of casting, held yesterday morning at the Media One hotel, one woman wore heavy make-up and a floor-length black dress festooned with sequins.

A coordinator took down the details: shirt size, shoe size, mobile number. Some hopefuls were asked if they owned a car - preferably white or silver - and if they could keep certain dates in November free.

One by one they were called into a small room with white walls and bright lights. A photographer snapped at least one headshot and full-body shot.

The process took hardly any time, especially compared to how long some spent preparing for their auditions.

Mohaned Hagahmed, a 27-year-old IT worker, drove from Abu Dhabi, waited an hour for his turn, then drove back home.

"I love to sing and dance," he said. "I've been looking for a chance like this for a long time."
