Iconic rock group, Dave Matthews Band will kick off their 2015 International Tour at Abu Dhabi’s du Arena on Yas Island. The one night only show is billed for Thursday, October 8, 2015.
The show will mark will the debut Middle Eastern performance for the soft rockers and the first of a new one month European Arena tour to end in Dublin on November 13. Founded by singer and songwriter Dave Matthews in 1991, the group has sold over 30 million albums with nine eclectic releases that saw them experiment with folk, jazz, rock, funk and even blue-grass.
The fact the seven piece don't have a new album to promote - their last being 2012's Away from the World - is also part of the group's charm. The band is one of the hardest working (and profitable) in the business with annual sell out tours of North America and Europe. The reason for the consistent ticket sales is the group's gigs are rarely the same with various set lists and songs given complete re-workings with each tour.
It is also arguably on stage where the band is most appreciated live. While the band’s recordings can suffer from over production, the band’s spirit is best displayed in concerts with the group swinging from all out rock jams to organic acoustic sounds. The new tour aims to showcase both qualities with David Matthews Band performing a career spanning set split into two parts, with the group switching from both electric to acoustic guitars in addition to playing as a whole to a duo.
The adventurous format, which began in a previous tour last year, has been praised by music critics with Rolling Stone magazine stating the show offers "plenty of surprises," while the Atlanta Journal hailed the group as "masters of its domain."
