Dubai may have thought it was overwrought with martial arts films after Jackie Chan's visit for Kung Fu Yoga, and the Fast and Furious crew's month-long trip.
Not so. Twisted Blues has arrived - a new martial arts film, which promises to be a beacon of feminism, and a beacon of the UAE's film-producing abilities - and is set to start shooting on May 25.
The film hopes to show how women can successfully fight domestic abuse, through the medium of Mixed Martial Arts.
They also want extras. Director Jac Mulder suggests around 275 local extras are required, while other sources close to the film suggest it may be closer to twice that, and here’s the bonus – you don’t need to be any colour, race, religion, or even physical build. They basically just want extras.
The movie is set to be entirely shot, produced, and the post production undertaken in Dubai, with South African director Mulder at the helm, and Hollywood stars including Josh Crotty, of multiple B-movie horror fame, and Brent Bailey, who is set to star alongside Woody Harrelson, of Cheers and Hunger Games fame, in this year's LBJ biopic, among the cast.
The film will be entirely shot in Dubai, between May 25 and June 19. The Hollywood cast have been flown in. Arts&Life be updating on the shoot as it goes on, but in the meantime, if you wish to be considered for an extra role, email casting@twistedbluesthefilm.com.
