Bieber strips after being booed at Fashion Rocks concert

Justin Bieber was loudly booed by the audience at the Fashion Rocks concert at Barclays Center on Tuesday night in Brooklyn, New York – and he wasn't even performing. The singer appeared on stage to introduce the British singer Rita Ora – and when the crowd booed him loudly, bizarrely he decided to strip down to his boxer shorts and socks. "I actually don't feel comfortable unless I'm in my Calvin's. So, what's up? Is that cool?" Bieber asked his bemused co-presenter, the model Lara Stone. Some in the audience cheered as he removed his blazer, tank top and trousers. The American footballer Victor Cruz, who introduced the breakthrough reggae-pop band MAGIC!, was also booed. He plays for the local team the New York Giants, who lost to the Detroit Lions on Monday. Those moments were in contrast to raunchy performances from Jennifer Lopez and Nicki Minaj. Usher kicked off the two-hour show, which was broadcast on CBS and included fiery performances from Jennifer Hudson, Enrique Iglesias and The Band Perry. The veteran rockers Kiss closed the event with Rock and Roll All Nite. – AP

Pacino reflects on old age at Toronto film festival

Introducing one of the two films starring Al Pacino at the Toronto International Film Festival, the artistic director Cameron Bailey said that perhaps an "Al Pacino Day" was in order, just as it had been for Bill Murray a few days earlier. In both David Gordon Green's Manglehorn and The Humbling, directed by Barry Levinson and adapted from the Philip Roth novel, the 74-year-old actor explores the regrets, ambitions and ruts of old age. And he was in a reflective mood as he talked about the films at the festival. "Ageing seems to have gotten a bit of a bad rap," Pacino said. "Like, what do you do now? Someone says how old are you; that's like saying how long do I have left? I can't answer that question. We grow in a lot of different ways and if you listen to your cycles or feel it, that takes you. A lot of times I haven't, but I'm starting to. These things I'm doing are expressions of that. I'm trying to be aware of that. I think I can enter that world. There are things I wouldn't do now that I would have done 20 years ago. I don't feel it. I'm not there." – AP

Stars line up to pay tribute to Beatles legend on new album

Bob Dylan, B B King, Billy Joel, Willie Nelson and The Cure are just a few of the artists and bands who will perform Paul McCartney songs on a tribute album to the former Beatle. Due out on November 18, The Art of McCartney, will include 42 songs and be available in various formats including a double-CD package and box set. It is the brainchild of the Los Angeles producer Ralph Sall, who has been working on the project since 2003. On many of the cuts, the artists are backed by McCartney's backing band, and McCartney's son James plays the keyboard with The Cure on their cover of The Beatles' Hello Goodbye. Dylan covers Things We Said Today, Nelson sings Yesterday, and Joel performs a pair of McCartney's solo songs, Maybe I'm Amazed and Live and Let Die. Other artists contributing to the album include the Motown giant Smokey Robinson, the Beach Boys frontman Brian Wilson and the hard rockers Kiss and Def Leppard. – AFP
