Award-winning Catalan composer Jordi Savall has postponed his concert Ibn Battuta: From Afghanistan to China (1336-1346) which was scheduled for Emirates Palace on Friday, January 13.
Savall’s much-anticipated performance in the capital as part of Abu Dhabi Classics has been shifted to Saturday, January 14, as a sign of respect for the five Emirati lives that were lost in Afghanistan earlier this week.
Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture made the announcement on Thursday morning stating that the decision was made to shift the concert "as a result of the national mourning for the victims" of the Kandahar attack.
Shortly after Savall’s announcement, the Youth Symphony Orchestra, who were due to perform at Dubi’s Wafi Mall on Saturday, January 14, sent out a note saying they too would acknowledge the mourning period by shifting their performance to January 20.
Savall, who a little more than two years ago debuted his Ibn Battuta: The Voyager of Islam I: From Morocco to Afghanistan (1314-1336), will follow his Saturday performance in Abu Dhabi with another in Al Ain on Sunday, January 15.
Emirati singer, oud player and composer Saeed Al Salem will perform alongside Savall in Abu Dhabi.
Tickets are priced from Dh80. For more details visit www.abudhabiclassics.ae/en/default.aspx
