Album review: Teenage Time Killers’s Greatest Hits a lot of fun

Greatest Hits Vol 1

Teenage Time Killers

(Rise Records)

Three stars

Created by My Ruin guitarist Mick Murphy and Corrosion of Conformity drummer Reed Mullin, Teenage Time Killers will remind some of us of late nights spent sitting beside the radio with a cassette player, recording obscure punk tracks from bands such as the Dead Kennedys and the Buzzcocks.

This mixtape feeling is only enhanced with Greatest Hits Vol 1's unwieldy 24 tracks, boasting a colourful array of star-studded guests, from Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl on bass and Slipknot singer Corey Taylor to Dead Kennedy Jello Biafra, who is in typically good form with the funny political missive An Ode to Sean Hannity.

In Ego Bomb, Taylor once again showcases his underrated vocal chops, while Tony Foresta's eye-popping rage in Ignorant People is barely harnessed by some stoner-rock grooves. In short, Teenage Time Killers are a riot of fun.
