1 Earthy tones
Inspired by nature, earth tones effortlessly blend into most surroundings, creating a natural and homely atmosphere whether your tastes lean towards the modern or more traditional. Favourites include grey, brown, tan and green. “It is a safe choice for those looking for a luxurious and relaxing atmosphere that is as comfortable as it is pleasing to the eye,” says Leon Machenaud, brand manager of design company Ethan Allen.
2 Colour blocking
Go bright, bold and carefree with your colour scheme. Hailing from the 1970s, colour blocking sets strong swathes of colour against a lighter backdrop. When done properly, it’s a great way to make a bold statement in your living space. Add a pop of vibrancy in your home by pairing blocks of colour with minimalistic furniture designs.
3 Metallic accents
Metallics continue to reign supreme and will match all colour hues, says Machenaud. Introduce metallic accents in the form of lamps, kitchen fixtures, vases and other smaller accessories. “No matter what scheme you are working with, you can easily incorporate the trending metallic tones with the addition of a few strategically placed accent pieces. You can add character and depth to your home by mixing in metallic tones such as nickel, silver and steel.”
4 Bohemian chic
The more eclectic boho-chic trend is big this season. “Creating a boho-chic living room means creating an absolutely different and personalised atmosphere,” says Machenaud. “The best feature of this style is that you can mix colours as you wish. Wood, fur, different fabrics, leather and plants – go nuts trying out the wide variety of materials to get your own unique personalised space.” If you’re a little unsure about this trend, start with a single statement chair with bright, slightly kitsch patterns.
5 Flower power
Let your interior be influenced by nature. “Floral prints have been topping the charts over the summer season. These prints are full of life and easily transform the look and feel of a room. With a diverse range of vibrant and vintage prints on offer, florals can also be used to create an edgy vibe in the room,” says Machenaud.
