Music lovers around the world are invited to join a 12-hour virtual house party to help bring attention to global hunger.

Hosted by Grammy-winning hitmakers Clean Bandit, the house party is being organised by international advocacy organisation Global Citizen.

Bandmates Grace Chatto, Jack Patterson, and Luke Patterson will front the all-day virtual gathering called the 'House Party Against Hunger'.

They will be joined by DJs from across five continents including Australian electronic duo The Aston Shuffle, Russia’s Cream Soda and Danish DJ Martin Jensen.

Covid-19 is threatening a new hunger crisis. Prior to the pandemic, more 132 million people were living with acute hunger, said Global Citizen. The economic devastation caused by the coronavirus has led experts to warn that this figure could double to 265 million in 2020 alone.

The free-to-attend house party aims to raise awareness of the scale of the problem when it screens live on YouTube at 3pm on August 8.

"The world desperately needs more empathy,” Clean Bandit said. “That's why we're backing Global Citizen's campaign calling on world leaders to do more in the fight against hunger – and urging our fans looking forward to our all-day house party on August 8 to head to their social action platform and support the campaign too."

Party attendees will be encouraged to sign a Global Citizen petition that calls upon governments and philanthropists to double support for the United Nations’ International Fund for Agricultural Development that helps rural communities work their way out of hunger.

Fans of Clean Bandit who sign the petition could be in with a chance of winning a virtual meet and greet with the band.

Known for their history of collaborating with stars before they’ve caught their big break, Clean Bandit has also produced hits for the likes of Jess Glynne and Anne-Marie.

Both these artists were involved in Global Citizen's One World Together at Home concert earlier this year. The worldwide event featured some of the biggest names in music and raised more than Dh469 million for Covid-19 relief.
