From the breathtaking opening shot, Alfonso Cuarón uses the best 3-D effects since Avatar and a thrilling yet simple plot to put you on the shoulders of those involved.
George Clooney and Sandra Bullock make a brilliant team, with the former’s easy charm providing respite between the many moments of peril. Bullock is also on fine form, for once not relying on punchlines to deliver a sincere and endearing performance that stays consistent right until the thrilling finale. Just when you thought Hollywood filmmaking had succumbed to endless remakes and financially motivated blockbusters, Gravity proves that the magic of cinema can still be derived from within the blue screens and effects drives. A spectacular film that, for once, lives up to the hype.
