Dubai online film community Human Film is set to host a free panel discussion on Monday night (July 10) on ‘the relevance and resonance of documentaries’ and audience members will be invited to discuss all aspects of the documentary making experience with panelists Reshel Shah Kapoor and Amirah Tajdin.
Kapoor is a film lecturer at SAE Dubai, a film producer and a documentary filmmaker. Her last feature documentary, Black Sheep, has earned more than seven international awards, including Humanitarian Filmmaker of the Year and Filmmaker of Inspiration at the World Human Rights Awards Film Festival, a festival that is run under the banner of the United Nations. She is currently working on her next two documentaries, both to be filmed later this year.
Tajdin, meanwhile, is a Kenyan artist and filmmaker who currently splits her time between Africa and the Middle East, balancing freelance commercial directing work with writing her first feature film, which is set in Kenya.
Her most recent co-directed short, Marea de Tierra (2015) premiered at the Cannes Director's Fortnight and was also part of Sundance Film Festival in 2016 under the International Shorts Program. It went on to play more than 20 film festivals globally.
She also forms the creative half of Seven Thirty Films, an Africa-based indie production company, alongside her sister, producer Wafa Tajdin.
