Filipino ‘Disney princess’ Lea Salonga to debut at Dubai Opera in September

Acclaimed stage star and Disney legend Lea Salonga will debut at Dubai Opera over two nights in September.

The Filipino talent is best known on the stage for her Tony Award-winning role in Miss Saigon, which debuted in 1989, and also made history as the first Asian performer to play Eponine in Les Misérables on Broadway.

However her distinctive chords will be familiar to millions more as the singing voice behind two animated Disney princesses – Jasmine from Aladdin and Fa Mulan for Mulan and Mulan II.

In 2011, she was named an official “Disney Legend”, following in the footsteps of names including Regis Philbin, Jim Henson (posthumously) and Anika Noni Rose.

With a discography of ten solo albums – and as many cast recording releases – the 46-year-old star has been called on to perform for six Philippine presidents, three American presidents and for Diana, Princess of Wales and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

A national treasure, she is currently serving term as a judge on reality TV show The Voice of the Philippines.

Tickets for the shows, on September 22 and 23, go on sale tomorrow (Tuesday March 28) from noon.
