The biggest apps of the decade have been revealed, and there is one company that has dominated the charts.
Not only was Facebook the most downloaded app of the past 10 years, Facebook-owned Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram were second, third and fourth.
The data, taken from the iOS and Google Play app stores, found that social media platforms dominated the top 10, with only US and Chinese companies making the list.
Snapchat was the fifth most downloaded app, followed by video calling platform Skype. Despite only launching in 2016, Chinese video sharing app TikTok made it to number seven on the list. UC Browser, YouTube and Twitter made up the rest of the 10.
Facebook and Facebook Messenger were original apps created by the Facebook company, while Instagram and WhatsApp were acquired by Facebook in deals worth $1 billion (Dh3.67bn) and $19 billion (Dh69.7bn) respectively.
In 2019, Facebook and Facebook Messenger remained the most downloaded apps, but according to analytics company App Annie, TikTok edged out Instagram to become the third most used app.
App Annie also found that Netflix was the app that generated the most profit from users over the course of the decade, while it named YouTube as the "biggest breakout app" of 2019, thanks to the launch of a number of its premium services.
