Daily Show with Trevor Noah will not screen on OSN
The Daily Show, with new host Trevor Noah replacing Jon Stewart, has been dropped by OSN.
The Dubai-based broadcaster, and arguably largest television subscription service in the Middle East and North Africa, said the yet untested Noah won’t be an audience favourite.
Regarding his prospects when The Daily Show returns in the United States on September 28, OSN’s executive vice president for programming and creative services Kholoud Abu-Humus said: “We did not believe that Noah will hold the show for our target audience.”
She added: “At the same time we have amazing programming announcements that will be coming on Oct 12 with new shows that are stronger and more appealing to our audience
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart was regularly broadcast on OSN First Comedy.
OSN is also not screening The Late Show, in which Stephen Colbert replacing David Letterman. Colbert’s previous show, The Colbert Report, was broadcast on OSN First Comedy.
Meanwhile, OSN will screen Quantico, featuring Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra, as well as the second season of Empire and the sixth and final season of Downton Abbey.
Noah is set to return to Dubai in stand-up comedy mode as the headliner of the inaugural Dubai Comedy Festival with a performance in a purpose-built 4,500 seat venue at the Dubai Marina on October 24.
