Emirati artist Mohammed Kazem is part of a group show in New York

This is minimialism at its best, and Mohammed Kazem, one of the UAE’s foremost conceptual artists, is part of the show.

Between Structure and Matter Other Minimal Futures is a group exhibition at Aicon Gallery in New York and with names such as Shilpa Gupta, Rasheed Araeen, Waqas Khan and Nadia Kaabi-Linke in the catalogue, the Emirati artist is in good company.

Kazem's work, Untitled (Red) is part of his Scratches series, where he makes subtle marks or scratches on paper either to depict the rhythm of music or other nuances that are not easily visualised. The delicate subject matter means that the work is better appreciated in person, but for those of us who are not in New York, the images here offer a point of reference.
