Joe Biden borrows Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself’ in dramatic closing campaign message

Move sparks speculation that the rapper supports the Democratic presidential candidate

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden featured Detroit rapper Eminem in his campaign's closing message on the eve of the election.

In a 45-second advertisement to encourage people to vote, the Biden campaign used Eminem's Lose Yourself  as the soundtrack of a video called "One Opportunity".

It is the first time the artist’s music has been used as a political message.

The advertisement borrows the lyrics “if you had one shot or one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted, would you capture it, or just let it slip?” before the word "vote" appears.

Introducing Eminem's song has triggered speculation that the artist supports Mr Biden, because this is the first time Eminem has allowed a political candidate licence to use his music. The rapper also posted the campaign video on his personal Twitter account, fueling the speculation.

The advertisement was filmed in black and white and features working-class Americans and voters standing in queues.

It also features clips of Detroit, where turnout will be critical if the Democrats are to win the state of Michigan, which they lost in 2016.

Singer Lady Gaga has come out in support of Mr Biden and is due to appear with him in a concert in Pittsburgh on Monday night.

The Trump campaign has relied more on videos of the president’s rallies and his own words urging supporters to vote in person and by mail.

Mr Trump tweeted a video on Monday afternoon that highlighted his populist message, with footage of his supporters in caravans and on horses with the words “make America great again".

More than 96 million Americans have already voted early, a record number, according to the US Election Project.

The candidates are criss-crossing swing states on the last day before the general vote on Tuesday.
