On March 13, 2016, Hanan Al Hroub was awarded the second annual $1 million (Dh3.67m) Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize in Dubai, from among 8,000 nominees.

She returned to Samiha Khalil school in Al Bireh, just outside Ramallah, on Sunday to cheers from her Grade 2 students.
