A paid parking system has been introduced at Zabeel Park in Dubai to stop people abusing spaces that were free of charge.

Under the new rules, visitors can park free of charge for up to 20 minutes at the popular area that is home to the Dubai Garden Glow and Dubai Frame tourist attractions.

Visitors face a Dh10 ($2.70) charge for the rest of the day after the grace period elapses.

Dubai Municipality also introduced monthly packages to use the parking spaces.

A monthly access card for joggers is available from Dh120 and local residents can obtain a pass for Dh200 a month.

The new charges are down to people from neighbouring areas leaving their vehicles in the car park all day free of charge, meaning there less fewer spaces for people who wanted to use the park itself.

The entrance fee to the park is Dh5 per person and can be paid using the emirate's Roads and Transport Authority Nol card.

Visitors to the Dubai Frame are also exempt from the entry fee to the park.

A visit to Dubai Frame costs Dh50 for adults, while entry is free of charge for children under the age of 12.

There is a fee of Dh65 to visit Dubai Garden Glow, which includes the Dinosaur Park and the Glow Garden.

Children under the age of 3 and disabled people are allowed access free of charge to both Dubai Frame and Dubai Garden Glow.

For more information on how to apply for a jogger and residence permit, people are advised to contact the municipality at 800 900.
