Motorists expressed relief at the news, saying the road had many cracks because of wear and tear from lorries.
“Trucks used to pass by this road before the opening of the ring road and it caused cracks in the pavement, which affected our cars and tyres,” said Sultan Al Harithi, 28, an Emirati.
“I use the road daily to go to work and I’m really happy to see the construction works have started.”
Ahlam Al Mazroui, 31, an Emirati mother of four, said, “I take my kids to school using Mohammed bin Matar road as we live in Al Ittihad area. The road needed to be improved and I’m glad that they had finally started with the upgrade.”
