A boy died after being run over by a speeding car on Kalba Road in Sharjah on Tuesday.
The Emirati, 4, was playing in front of his house in Mughadir area when a woman ran him over.
He was taken to Kalba Hospital by his father but was pronounced dead soon after arrival, Arabic-language newspaper Al Bayan reported on Wednesday.
Sharjah Police were told about the accident at 5pm and dispatched police patrols to the hospital to investigate.
“Investigations showed that lack of attention and concentration while driving caused the accident,” said police.
Police called on parents to monitor their children whether inside or outside the house and not to leave children alone in the streets and public places to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
They also urged drivers to pay attention while driving and adhere to speed limits on the road, especially while driving in residential areas, neighbourhoods, and internal roads.
The boy was buried in Kalba cemetery on Tuesday evening.
