Abu Dhabi Police have issued a safety warning over the dangers of jumping a red light after releasing a horrific crash video.

The 25-second clip was posted on the force's social media accounts.

In the video, a reckless driver is seen jumping a red light and crashing into a minivan.

The video is part of a traffic safety campaign called ‘Share your comment’ to remind motorists to obey traffic laws.

Authorities urged drivers to pay attention while driving, and avoid using mobile phones when they are behind the wheels.

“The penalty for light vehicles jumping the red signal is Dh1,000 with 12 black points, and the vehicle will be impounded for 30 days,” said a police spokesman.

Heavy vehicles face a Dh3,000 fine for the same offence, and a one-year suspension of their driving licence.
