Donations for people and refugees in the Levant region affected by the recent snowstorm have been rolling in after the President, Sheikh Khalifa, made an appeal for help.
On Wednesday, donations from government entities, businesses and charities amounted to about Dh18 million.
• The Dar Al Ber Society pledged Dh1 million, while the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments had already sent Dh1 million to the Emirates Red Crescent.
• The Dubai Health Authority donated Dh2 million worth of medicine.
• The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is supporting the campaign by holding a clothing drive among its staff until Monday. Items that can be donated include winter clothing, blankets, food items and money.
• Telecom provider du is also participating, holding a drive among its staff that also ends on Monday.
• Other organisations involved include Emirates Transport and the Emirates Centre For Strategic Studies and Research.
The ERC has confirmed that those interested in contributing to the campaign can drop donations at any of its branches, in addition to accepting monetary donations via SMS through Etisalat and du networks, or by calling the toll-free number 800 733. Du users can make donations via SMS, by sending the word “help” to 7100 to donate Dh100, or 7200 to donate Dh200.
