SHARJAH // The organised crime section at the Criminal Investigation Department arrested an eight-member gang, all Pakistani, for practising criminal activities.
The gang specialise in selling illegally acquired mobile phone credit at a fraction of the retail cost.
CID received a tip that the gang had rented an apartment and used it as an operations base.
The scammers posed as representatives of large corporations and convinced their victims that they had won large sums of money, which would be collected once the winner transferred phone credit to specified mobile numbers.
Soon after, the victims would discover that they were scammed.
A CID team was formed to follow up on the case in cooperation with Ajman Police. The gang members were caught in the act and confessed.
They were referred to Sharjah public prosecution.
