RAS AL KHAIMAH // Police have refuted rumours circulating on social media that a plane crashed in the emirate on Tuesday.

The rumours began when pictures of a fire that broke out in labour accommodation on Monday evening were published online, said Maj Gen Ali bin Al Wan, director of RAK Police.

The fire, in Al Dhaid, destroyed 14 caravans. No injuries were reported.

Maj Gen Ali Al Nuaimi, commander in chief of RAK Police, expressed his shock at the publication of “irresponsible” rumours which had led to the confusion, the state news agency Wam reported.

An investigation into where the rumour started is underway, said Maj Al Nuaimi.
