ABU DHABI // Three-quarters of labour strikes last year were over end-of-service payments or delayed wages.
Of labourers involved in strikes, 49 per cent were protesting about not receiving end-of-service payments and 24 per cent over late wages, according to Dubai Police figures released yesterday by the UAE Committee to Combat Human Trafficking.
The police recovered Dh2.76 million worth of delayed salaries last year.
The Ministry of Labour settled 3,033 workers' disputes and liquidated Dh31.5m of companies' bank guarantees involving late, unpaid or otherwise improper salaries.
The ministry said 162,413 inspections were carried out in the past year to ensure employers observed the law on working hours, holidays, health and safety standards, and overtime.
