ABU DHABI // Drivers on the motorway between Abu Dhabi and Al Ain can expect traffic to flow more freely after a bridge at Al Mafraq opened to lorries on Tuesday.
The bridge, for those travelling to and from Workers City and Baniyas, will rid the bottlenecks caused by lack of a turn back to Abu Dhabi on the Al Ain-bound lanes, Abu Dhabi Municipality said.
The bridge has four lanes in each direction, four exits, a pedestrian walkway, drains and a hard shoulder for parked vehicles and emergencies.
The project is part of the municipality’s vision to ensure sustainable development and boost the standard of living across Abu Dhabi emirate.
Previously, motorists driving from Workers City to Al Wathba had to drive to Al Dhafra bridge to turn, then head back towards Al Ain before reaching Al Wathba bridge.
“The new bridge brings about a solution for their traffic woes and contributes to streamlining the traffic flow and reducing the pollution resulting from vehicle exhausts as a result of curtailing the trip route,” the municipality said yesterday.
