Man embezzled money to ‘hurt’ employers, prosecutors told

ABU DHABI // A government employee embezzled Dh980,000 to “cause damage” to his employers, Abu Dhabi Fund Prosecutors said yesterday.

The man was in charge of e-transfers at his company and moved the Dh980,000 to his personal account. He confessed to prosecutors, saying he took the money to hurt the company.

During the company’s internal investigations the man returned the cash.

Embezzlement cases usually result in a ruling for the accused to return the stolen amount, plus pay a fine equalling the amount of money embezzled, as well as a jail sentence. Prosecutors have referred the case to court.
