DUBAI // A man who was cleared of possessing drugs by the Dubai Criminal Court will not stand trial again after prosecutors failed in their bid to overturn his acquittal.

The 23-year-old Indian was arrested on July 20 last year after he refused to follow the orders of a policeman and pull up his trousers while walking through a Metro station in Naif.

“His trousers were so low that his underwear was showing, and several people were looking at him,” said the arresting officer in an earlier hearing at the court, adding that it was not a decent sight during Ramadan.

The officer said when he stopped the man and requested to see identification. He opened his wallet and a folded piece of paper fell to the ground which the officer said contained marijuana.

In court last October, the Indian denied possessing 0.14 grams of marijuana for personal use. The court acquitted him of the charge. Prosecutors filed an appeal and lost.
