Maid accused of theft from sponsor is turned in by embassy in Dubai

Asian woman sought sanctuary but was handed over to police after arrest warrant was issued.

DUBAI // An Asian maid who sought refuge at her country’s embassy in Dubai after allegedly stealing from her sponsor has been turned in to police.

The maid is said to have stolen gold jewellery and an amount of money from her sponsor in Al Buhaira, Kalba, before seeking sanctuary at her embassy.

Prosecutors in Kalba issued a warrant for her arrest after her Emirati sponsor filed a police report accusing her of the theft and then absconding without his knowledge.

However, she did not get the protection she expected as the embassy turned her in to police as soon as they heard of the warrant.
