The UAE recorded 236 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, taking the number of infections to 57,734.

Officials announced another 390 patients recovered from the virus, with the total number of people given the all-clear at 50,354.

One patient was reported to have died of Covid-19 since Tuesday's figures were released, taking the toll to 342.

The UAE conducted more than 47,000 tests in the past 24 hours, with more than 4.5 million screenings carried out in the country since the outbreak began.

Globally, Reuters figures showed coronavirus infections surged past 15 million on Wednesday, Reuters figures show.

The total is at least triple the number of severe flu illnesses recorded annually, the World Health Organisation says.

In the US, President Donald Trump cautioned on Tuesday that the “nasty, horrible” outbreak would become worse in the US before it improved.
