Sharjah Police recorded more than 21,000 breaches of Covid-19 restrictions at labour camps in the emirate.

Patrols discovered the infringements during inspections carried out between May 20 and October 1. At least 7,000 were found in industrial areas.

Failing to wear masks, not adhering to physical distancing rules and carrying too many passengers accounted for many of the issues.

Police have been carrying out an information campaign in the past few months to raise awareness about Covid-19, with 170,089 leaflets in several languages distributed to outline the need to follow public health rules to curb the spread of the disease.

Cases in the UAE reached a new daily high on Saturday, with 1,538 new infections.

Authorities repeatedly urged people to follow the rules and take information about the pandemic from official sources.
