The UAE had dispatched an aid plane containing 10 tonnes of medical supplies, testing kits and ventilators to North Macedonia.

It will assist about 10,000 medics as they work to contain the Covid-19 pandemic, Wam reported.

The Balkan country, which has recorded about 39,760 cases and 1,136 deaths, has introduced measures to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Omar Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to Italy, said the aid strengthens ties between both countries.

"The UAE is keen to develop relations with the Republic of North Macedonia and strengthen joint cooperation to serve the common interests of the two countries and benefit their peoples," he said.  "The assistance sent today strengthens relations between both countries."

The UAE during the pandemic has provided more than 1,613 tonnes of aid to 120 countries in need, supporting more than 1.6 million medics in the process.
