A 3-year-old child and a housemaid were killed by a fire at a home in Sweihan, Al Ain, on Sunday.
The child, an Emirati girl, was taken to an Intensive Care Unit at a local hospital where she was treated for acute asphyxiation but died soon afterwards, according to Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Al Darmaki, director of the Civil Defence Department in Al Ain. The housemaid, 30, from Asia, died at the home.
Lt Col Al Darmaki said emergency services arrived at the home within five minutes of the fire being reported.
Firefighters took 20 minutes to extinguish the flames.
Lt Col Al Darmaki urged home owners to keep fire extinguishers.
