ABU DHABI // Pupils at several schools in rural Abu Dhabi were relocated amid health and safety concerns, the Abu Dhabi Education Council announced on Wednesday.
A press release said “a large number” of kindergarten and cycle two and three public school pupils were moved to purpose-built buildings in line with health and safety measures.
The move came as a result of a health and safety inspection report published by Musanada.
Cycle three students from the Hamdan Bin Mohamed School in Baniyas relocated to the Al Sammaliya cycle two and three school in Shawamekh, which offers education to all nearby communities.
Cycle two students from the Al Sammaliya School were transferred to three different schools based on geographical convenience to accommodate the relocations.
Pupils residing in the Shakhboot area were enrolled in the Jern Yafoor cycle two school; those living in the Shamkha area were enrolled in the Al Mutanabi cycle two school, and students residing in the Shawamekh area were relocated to the Al Moatasem School.
Kindergarten pupils from the Al Zayediya Kindergarten were relocated to a vacant school building near their area of residence.
Teachers and staff members from the Hamdan Bin Mohamed cycle three school were transferred to the same schools their students were transferred to and closest to their residence.
Adec coordinated with the Emirates Transport Company to ensure all pupils were offered transport.
Parents were also contacted before the decision to reallocate the students.
Adec officials were not available for comment on Wednesday.
