Dubai Police assisted in the seizure of 140 kilograms of cocaine at a Maltese port at the start of the month.
The drugs - worth Dh14 million - were hidden inside olive oil presses aboard a cargo ship from Latin America.
After going through a number of ports in Africa and Asia, the cargo also went through Jebel Ali port undetected, said Maj Gen Abdul Jalil Mahdi, the director general of Dubai Police's anti-drugs department. But after realising they had been misled, police tracked the ship's progress and gave "vital information" to Maltese authorities, who found the haul.
