DUBAI // A maid stole two mobile phones and money from another maid, the Dubai Criminal Court has heard.

The Ethiopian accused confessed she stole the smartphones, worth Dh1,600, and Dh6,000 in cash from her compatriot at their sponsor’s house in Al Qusais on August 28.

She also admitted to sending the money to her family in Ethiopia.

The other maid had kept the phones and the money in a small bag in her room, and found they were missing when she returned from a visit to her consulate.

“I suspected that she took them, and when I confronted her she confessed and said her family needed money,” said the maid, who told her sponsor.

The phones were found in the defendant’s possession.

A verdict is expected on November 27.
