DUBAI // A drunk worker who hit his colleague five times over the head with an iron bar told Dubai Criminal Court that it was not in his intention to kill the man.
Prosecutors said that on November 18 last year Bangladeshi AS, 29, killed his countryman SA with an iron bar that he hid in sand after the murder.
“We received a report of the incident and rushed to the location where the dead man was lying, topless in a pool of blood, in a building in International City,” said police captain TA, 36.
He said that the man who reported the incident, Pakistani MS, 37, told them he saw the defendant running back and forth to and from the location of the dead body.
“I went down and saw the dead man so I called my supervisor then police,” said MS.
The defendant told police that he was urinating behind a tree when he noticed SA filming him. He said he was then blackmailed by SA into cleaning a building or else he would show the video to others.
“I cleaned the place, as he requested, but then when I asked him to repay me a debt of Dh500, he refused and started insulting me,” said the defendant.
“We fought and then I saw the iron bar, picked it up and struck him but I was drunk, I did not mean to kill him.”
He added that he took the victim’s mobile phone, removed its battery and then buried it in the sand.
He was arrested the next day.
The next hearing is on February 9.
